What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It’s a type of light therapy used to treat wrinkles, spots, and unwanted hair.

  • Reduce sun damage (photo-aging)

  • Reduce fine wrinkles

  • Smooth skin & reduce pore size

  • Reduce irregular pigmentation & freckles

  • Even out skin tone

  • Improve Rosacea: reducing the overall redness, flushing & dilated capillaries

  • Reduce broken capillaries

  • Reduce acne and acne scarring

  • See dramatic improvements from the 1st treatment

What area's can I treat for Hair Removal with IPL?

  • Any area of the face and body can be treated with pulse light. The darker the hair the richer in melanin and the better the result.

  • During IPL hair removal procedures, the energy from the high-intensity flashes of light is absorbed by the chromophore melanin, which is responsible for hair pigment or colour. Dark hair, which is rich in melanin, readily absorbs this light and transfers it as heat into the surrounding capillaries, which supply blood to growing hairs. When the blood vessels are destroyed in high temperatures, additional hair growth is prohibited.

Does it give permanent results?

We call it permanent hair reduction as ther’re a factors that can stimulate new hair growth such as hormal fluctuations seen often in pregnancy and menopause. But yes for the most part your hair will not grow back at all, whilst other hair may grow back thinner and lighter. We do advise with our teens to see more permanent results hormone fluctuations need to have settled eg. periods to have been regular for at least 6 months. Treatments can being during this time but It will require more than the 6 - 10 treatments normally recommended.

Does it hurt?

For most people, there is virtually no pain. The feeling of the treatment is extremely variable from one person to another, it depends on the concentration of melanin in the skin and the size and density of the hair.

What should I expect straight after a treatment?

In most cases, there are no visible effects. Therefore the treatment does not interfere with normal activities. Hair is detached from its nourishment but it still remains in its sheath during the renewal of the epidermis (peeling). A light exfoliation / shaving of the area 10-15 days after the session can speed up the rate at which the hair falls out.

IPL offers way more than just hair removal!

Photo-Rejuvenation, Anti-Aging, Face-Firming

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photorejuvenation is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a powerful light source to improve the appearance of skin. It is a popular treatment for a variety of skin concerns, such as sun damage, age spots, freckles, and rosacea. The light energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigmented areas, causing them to break down and fade over time.

IPL stimulates collagen production, which can improve the overall texture and tone of the skin. This treatment can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands and other body areas. It is suitable for most skin types.

Post-treatment you will see an immediate lift effect and over the following week as the body follows the natural process to produce more collagen, yout will see a fuller, smoother effect of the treated area.

Dark spot, age spot, pigment spot elimination and reduction:

Melanin is a pigment that gives color to our hair, skin, and eyes. It is produced by special cells called melanocytes and helps protect our skin from the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays.

The skin may produce over pigmentation due to various factors such as genetics, sun exposure, hormonal changes, and certain medications. This excess production of pigment can result in conditions such as melasma, hyperpigmentation, and freckles.

These may or may not bother the person, however, they are typically quite noticeable and so, for esthetic reasons a person may want them removed.

From the first IPL treatment you can dramatically reduce the appearance of the spots while also limiting future overproduction of melanin.

It is important to consult with a trained professional to determine if IPL photorejuvenation / hair removal is right for you. A test patch is always required before commencement of treatments.
